- From a typed paper also attached to the back of one
of Lennon Bandel’s paintings c.1980.
#######################################################
Bandel often framed his own oil paintings and included a small plaque
with the title of the painting. In addition, the back of the
painting often has hand written notations with dates on the progress he
was making with the various steps necessary to completely finish the
painting. He would note when the primary paints were started and
completed, when varnish was applied, etc.
His style was extremely realistic and the characters represented in his
painting seem to take on a life of their own. The influence of his
teachers, especially Thomas Hart Benton are very evident. Lennon Bandel
passed away on March 10th 2004 at the Blue Hills Rest Home in
Independence Missouri at the age of 97.
