This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Lester M. Bonar (1896-1973)

Born in Phoenix, Arizona on March 30, 1896, Bonar received his training in art from the University of California, Los Angeles and continued his studies in watercolor with  Sam Hyde Harris, and others. He became a landscape painter in oil and watercolor, especially of scenes around San Pedro, California, where he settled in the 1920s.  He served in World War I in France under General John J Pershing.

For over 30 years, Bonar taught at Alhambra High School.

Early in his career, he worked almost exclusively with oil, but in the 1940s changed to watercolor, which he exhibited at local venues.

Bonar was a member of the California Art Club, the Desert Art Center, Glendale Art Association, and Laguna Beach Art Association.

He held many solo shows and exhibited in Cultural and Civic Centers in Southern California and across the U.S.  He received awards at the Los Angeles County, Fair, Laguna Beach Art Association, North San Diego County Art Center, and others.
