This biography from the Archives of AskART:
As a child Lorence Bjorklund lived near Fort Snelling, Minnesota and became familiar with horses and the military. He won an art scholarship to the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. in early 1930. During these early years he drew illustrations for Western pulp magazines

Bjorklund married and settled on Crosby Road in Croton Falls, N.Y.  His studio there was full of cowboy and Indian relics for he strove for accurate details, his hallmark.

Bjorklund illustrated more than 300 books, both for adults and for children. His specialty was the Early American west. He also illustrated and wrote many books including Faces of the Frontier and The Great American Buffalo.

Jeff Dykes listed Bjorklund in his book 50 Great American Illustrators.

Bjorklund was born on July 16, 1911 and died in 1978.
