| | Born on Nov. 24, 1884 in St Joseph, MO. Lou Bigelow grew up in Ronan, MT. She learned the art of photography from her father and later became assistant to Roland Reed. As such, she arrived in San Diego during the 1915 exposition and opted to remain. She established a photography studio on Coronado and became successful as a photographer of the guests of the Hotel Del Coronado. One of her assistants, Jeanette Atkinson, taught her to paint and, when not busy with the photography studio, she painted portraits and landscapes.
