This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Lincoln and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Louise Meyer Bereuter is a painter in watercolor and oil of landscapes, still lifes, animals including chickens, city architecture, and barns. She has also done a series of angels and another of Americana gas stations, and describes her style as "Edward Hopperesque."

As a young woman, she left Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa, after one year and spent time in Boston where she attended the School of the Museum of Fine Art. She married Douglas Bereuter, who served in the Nebraska Legislature while Louise chaired the Art Department at Lincoln High in the capital city of Lincoln from 1967 to 1972.

She took several years off to stay home with her two sons and then from 1980 to 1999, taught in the Art Department at Yorktown High School in Arlington, Virginia. She was Chair of the Department for five years. During this period, her husband was Congressman from the First District of Nebraska and continues in that position. Depicting Washington landmarks in ink drawings, she was illustrator of the "Congressional Club Cookbook," published in 1982.

Bereuter has a Master of Arts degree in Arts Education from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and in addition to that degree and her study at the School of Fine Arts at the Boston Museum, she also attended Kansas State University and San Francisco State College.

From 1999, she has divided her time between homes in Arlington, Virginia, and a nine-acre farm in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska, and has studios in both places. In Nebraska, she loves to garden and observe the wildlife that comes through the farm property, which she describes as her "sanctuary surroundings." Needless to say, she finds many subjects for her painting in that special place located near Pawnee Indian sacred ground.

The image on this artist's Summary Page is of a painting the artist did for a book titled: "Lyra and Silas Garber: A First Couple in Frontier History and In Willa Cather's 'A Lost Lady' "
