| Born in Australia in 1871, Blashki studied art at the Melbourne Gallery School. Leaving Sydney in 1898 with his friend Francis McComas, the two artists set sail for America. Blashki left the ship in Hawaii and worked for a few months as an illustrator for the Honolulu Evening Bulletin before sailing to San Francisco. Upon arrival, he continued in that line of work for about six months for the Examiner. He then moved to NYC and on a trip to England married into a wealthy family there. At the advent of WWI, he changed his name to Miles Evergood.
After many years in New York City and London, in 1931 he returned to his native land where he remained until his death in Melbourne on Jan. 3, 1939. In the 1940s his wife moved to Oakland and brought with her the bulk of his life's work.
