Manuel Barthold (1874-1947)
He was born in Moscow in 1874, and very soon after, all his family emigrated to the United States. So basically, he was an American citizen even though, later, he was given as well the French nationality. As many American painters at the end of the nineteenth century, he went to Paris improve his skills. He studied there with Auguste Cormon and Jean-Paul Laurens.
