This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Earned a BA at Carleton College. Studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and with Lyonel Feininger, Josef Albers and William Stanley Hayter. From 1937-45, Balzer was Assistant Director of Berea College in Berea, KY and then moved to New York City where she was an art instructor at Swain School of Art from 1948-50.

Awards: Art Institute of Chicago, 1946; Intermont College, Bristol, CA, 1945.

Exhibitions: Lincoln Art Guild, 1941; Intermont College, 1944, 1945; Ohio Valley Artists, 1944, 1945; Art Institute of Chicago, 1944, 1946; Berea College, 1946; Univ. of Louisville, 1946; Carleton College, 1946; Brooklyn Museum, 1947; Lehigh Univ., 1949, 1952. Collections: Berea College.
