This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Painter Marie Bruner Haines was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1885, growing up there, and in Dayton and Madisonville, Ohio. Haines was a painter of different subjects, including landscapes varied according to locale, flavor and subject matter in Georgia, Florida, Texas, New Mexico and Bennington, Vermont. She painted Indian subjects in Taos, New Mexico in the 1920s, as well as later from sketches made there. She also painted commissioned portraits, and did pastels of children in the 1940s and 1950s.

Haines' art education included the Cincinnati Art Academy in 1900-1901; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, in Philadelphia, 1904-1905; and later at the Art Students League, New York City, 1915-1917; National Academy of Design, New York City; and Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois.

During much of these latter studies, Haines was based in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1908 to 1921. She moved to College Station, Texas in 1921, living there until 1950, with an interval in St. Augustine, Florida, in the mid-1920s. She married rather late in life, in 1950, moving to Bennington, where she lived until her death in 1962.

Marie Haines exhibited at the Cincinnati Art Museum; Atlanta Art Association; Southern States Art League; Museum of New Mexico, Santa Fe; Fort Worth Art Association; Texas Wildflower Competition, San Antonio; and Society of Vermont Artists, Manchester.

Haine's work is in the collections of the Blackmer Memorial Law Library, in Bennington, and Texas A & M University, College Station.
