This biography from the Archives of AskART:
This biography was originally submitted by Bart Rulon, friend of the artist.

Mark Boyle was born in Seattle WA March 25th, 1960, and now has a studio in Mukilteo near Seattle. Boyle was tutored in the fundamentals of drawing and painting at a very young age by regionally known artist Carl Christophersen. In High school he won first place in the state wide "Superintendents Art Show."

Mark completed studies in design and illustration at the Burnley School of Art in Seattle WA in 1982. After graduation, Design Firms hired him to create graphics from T-shirts and menu design to corporate identity and Boeing jumbo jet exterior markings.

Mark spends a lot of time in the outdoors including two brief summers (1985-1986) as a US Forest Service wilderness ranger at Glacier Peak wilderness area in Washington State. Many of his paintings are inspired from off trail/cross country hikes over rough wilderness terrain. Boyle loved to explore the wilderness with just a topographical map as a guide through mountain meadows and forests. In 1982 he joined the Trailblazers Club, a volunteer group which plants fingerling trout in high mountain lakes for the Washington Department of Wildlife.

On fishing trips to the Olympic National Park, he observed distorted shapes of migratory Salmon and Steelhead in the rivers which inspired him to create a unique style of impressionistic fish paintings. This style marks the use of bright strokes of paint combined with detailed areas in the center of interest. Mark studied and painted plein-air painting with Ned Mueller, Wm. F. Reese and other artist friends.

Awards include eleven paintings in "Arts for the Parks" five of which have won medallions including the 1999 Yellowstone National Park Purchase award, published in the Northlight Book "Best of Wildlife Art" and juried into Woodson Art Museums "Birds in Art" and "Wildlife the Artists View". Mark has been a member of The Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters, Northwest Pastel Society and Northwest Watercolor Society. Collections include Woodson Art Museum, West Coast Paper Company and Yellowstone National Park.
