 Primarily a painter of mood inspired, mystical landscapes, he was born on December 12, 1894 in the Netherlands and died June 2, 1975.
Suffering from depression, Bies' work became widely recognized prior to and after World War II. His painting was chosen and presented to British Gen. Montgomery as a gesture of appreciation for the liberation of Europe.
His art is on display in The Bies Museum located in the city of Deurne in The Netherlands.
