| Mary E. Bennett was born in Coventry Connecticut on September 27, 1877. She and her family moved to Bristol, Connecticut in 1884. She graduated from the local high school in 1896 and attended the Pratt Institute in the fall of 1896.
She attended Pratt for two years and started teaching at Middletown High School in the fall of 1898. Her photo is in the 1904 year book as well as year books through the late 1930's. She started the Middletown High School Art Club in 1931. The club just celebrated it's 80th anniversary this past month. Mary E. Bennett also taught at the Portland schools at the same time.

| A painter, illustrator and teacher she taught at City High School, Middletown, Connecticut, from 1899-1944. Her art training included Pratt Institute in New York and the Berkshire Summer School of Art. She illustrated a Connecticut state bulletin on geology of Middletown, Connecticut and vicinity.
Bennett was a member of the Hartford Society of Women Painters and exhibited with that association. She was also a member of the Hartford Art Club.
