Maurice Brevannes, 1901-1976
Not much is known about this artist. It is believed that he was born in France or Canada, having immigrated to New York with his family at an early age. Because nothing is known about his education, he is regarded as a self-taught artist. He did occasional illustrations for books from about 1931 to 1956, but also painted extensively to the end of his life.
During the thirties he did get some recognition for modernist interior and figure subjects, (showing 500 of 1014 characters). |
