This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is from the artist:

I was born with a paint brush in my hand! Objective: To explore ideas which reflect my visions of once upon a time. Background: I was born near Hamburg Germany, Maya Itzna Manuela Schafer.

My earliest childhood memories are of my parents painting. At fourteen we moved to Guatemala and started a family art gallery, La Galeria, in Panajachel. I started my own gallery MAGIC in Antigua Guatemala (1979-81). With marimbas playing, I was married to Maury Brooks in Guatemala, (1987). We moved to northern New Mexico (1988) to participate in the booming art business here. In 1998 we attended the birth of our adopted son Aesop Yosef Brooks.

As a team with Maury, I painted and sold over 2800 pieces of functional art furniture, pottery, and clothing in Santa Fe. We have painted murals and artistically refinished two homes. I have illustrated a children's book and painted extensively for the children's educational book market. I have also sold my fine art paintings. We have personally sold much of our work, in addition to sales by stores and agents.

Now: I am focusing more exclusively on my fine art, evolving new techniques, painting ideas from dreams, inner visions, stories and real life. I find my new works reflecting small pieces of my artistic past which many of my patrons might relate to, while communicating ideas which have significance to me. Ancient and regional cultural themes which have been an area of interest and much discussed in my life since childhood, are often the subject of my work. These themes might relate to lifestyles, healing methodologies or philosophies. My color palette for which I have long been known is inspired by my parents works and by the colors found in Guatemalan living.

Education: Self taught and by my parents Der Stift in Austria, studied Bauernmalerei and the restoration of furniture. 1981.
