| Merle Percy Basham was born in San Ardo, CA on Sept. 14, 1906. Basham was educated at San Mateo Jr. College, UC Berkeley, and Stanford University (1929). He then studied at the CSFA and worked as an artist for Sunset magazine in San Francisco.
During WWII he worked nearby in Sunnyvale as an industrial artist for Joshua Hendy Company, a manufacturer of liberty ships. Following the war he worked as a freelance artist. In his leisure he painted portraits, still lifes, and landscapes in oil and watercolor.
