This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| The following was submitted by the artist, June 2004. His website is www.mbierman.com.
Michael Bierman first came to art in childhood. As a young man he worked in construction, then enlisted in the military in 1960. After leaving the service, he worked in the construction, nightclub and insurance businesses. He left art in the background those years, but continued to study art and art movements.
In 1978 he dropped out of the business world and dedicated his life to the making of art. Through the early and mid 1980s, he worked at times as a visiting artist for the National Endowment for the Arts through the Arkansas Art Council. During this time he enjoyed the friendship of Glenn Gant and Louis Freund of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and Ely de Vescovi, whom he considers a mentor.
In the late 80s Bierman moved to San Miguel Allende, Mexico, where he studied the great Mexican Muralists Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros and Jose Clemente Orozco and continued to create new works.
After Mexico, he lived and painted in Hannibal, MO for a time and then moved to his beloved island of Key West, FL. He continued to paint and developed a large circle of collectors and enthusiasts.
Bierman moved to Concord, New Hampshire in 1989 and has maintained his studio there since then.
