| Nella Fontaine Binckley was born in Washington, DC in 1877. Binckley was a pupil of William M. Chase before moving to California about 1890. While a resident of San Francisco, she further studied at the Mark Hopkins Institute while maintaining a studio-home at 932 Sutter. She was also active in Santa Rosa and Santa Barbara. By 1916 she had returned to Washington and was active in the local art scene. A fire in her home took her life there on April 27, 1951. Her work includes portraits and Chinatown scenes.
Exhibited: Mechanics' Institute (SF), 1896-97; Mark Hopkins Institute, 1898; Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), 1932 Washington Art Club, 1934.
