| Born in the Andes Mountains of Colombia, South America to a family of eleven brothers and sisters, he became an abstract painter of works symbolic of a variety of actual and psychological experiences including religion and relationships between parents and children. He is a recipient of the White House Hispanic Heritage Award and is a Trustee of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.
His mother died when he was age 12, and he received most of his education in Jesuit boarding school. He had no formal fine art training although he was creative on paper from the time he was a child. Much of his adult life was spent in Laguna Beach, California, with a move in the late 1990s to Hawaii. |
