Paul Bowen was born in Colwyn Bay, a coastal town in Wales, Great Britain. After undergraduate studies at Chester Art School and the Newport College of Art in his home country, he went to graduate school at the Maryland Institute in Baltimore.
He has received awards and fellowships from the Welsh Arts Council, the New England Foundation for the Arts, the Pollock Krasner Foundation and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown.
He is represented in the collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, as well as numerous private and corporate collections in the United States and abroad..
Since 1977, Paul Bowen has lived in Provincetown, a few yards from the sea--the primary resource and inspiration for his work.
