compared to the extensive information about American artists.
The artist lives and works near Utrecht, Holland. He completed
the Academy of Art in Rotterdam after which he studied painting with
Hermanus Jozef Wijngaard.
The themes that Brouwer chooses are mainly Dutch landscapes done in oil
on linen. His technique is an interesting combination of realism and
impressionism which immediately brings the viewer into the Dutch
Countryside and then allows him to actually feel and smell the moist,
fresh air of Holland and see the soft pastel colors of nature.
His scenes place us in charming pastoral landscapes with cottages and
church spires in the distance. Brouwer’s particular talent is
expressed in his use of tiny thick splotches of paint that highlight
trees, flowers and other natural objects bringing texture and dimension
to his canvasses. This interplay of realist and impressionist
elements creates drama in an otherwise soft dreamy atmosphere.
Peter Brouwer exhibited widely in Utrecht, Amsterdam, Venlo,
Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich. |
