Mary Brainerd Thomson Baumgras (1840-1928) was married to painter Peter Baumgras (1827-1904).  She is buried at the Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, D.C. 

There are four close by gravestones related to Baumgras family history in this cemetery.  Mrs. Baumgras' son, Erwin Cyrus Brainerd (nee Baumgras,1863-1949), resided for most of his life in the District of Columbia.  Mrs. Baumgras left Chicago at an unknown date to live with, or perhaps simply near her son's family.

The cremated remains of her husband are buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Syracuse, NY.  Peter Baumgras died and was cremated in Chicago.
