| Reginald Osborn Bennett was born on February 20, 1893 in Devils Lake, North Dakota. He served in Europe in World War 1 and stayed on to study at the Sorbonne. He was influenced by Cezanne yet kept a kind of American realism. He settled in Detroit where he was an important figure in Detroit's art world as a painter and teacher. He was a member of the Scarab Club. A painting of Woodstock won first prize in the Michigan Artists Show of 1930. During the Depression, he did some murals through the WPA program and eventually joined GM as an automobile designer. He retired from Ford and moved to California. He died in Hawaii on January 10, 1980. He is included in Who is Who in American Art.
