| Reginald Osborn Bennett was born on February 20, 1893 in Devils Lake, North Dakota. He served in Europe in World War 1 and stayed on to study at the Sorbonne. He was influenced by Cezanne yet kept a kind of American realism. He settled in Detroit where he was an important figure in Detroit's art world as a painter and teacher. He was a member of the Scarab Club. A painting of Woodstock won first prize in the Michigan Artists Show of 1930. During the Depression, he did some murals through the WPA (showing 500 of 789 characters). |
