This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following, submitted January 2005, is from the artist.

Born in Pampa, Texas in 1951, Robert Batterton is known for expressive figurative drawings and paintings intended to evoke another place and time. Chiaroscuro is often employed to give light and shadow a metaphorical implication, as well as graphic design. Subject matter may be derived from old family snapshots, observations of nature's light effects, memory, and symbolism.

Education includes a BFA, University of Texas - Austin; Yale Summer School of Art - Norfolk, CT; a MFA, Rutgers University - New Brunswick, NJ; and a Ford Foundation study grant. Leon Golub, Joan Snyder, and Robert Levers were important teachers for the artist.

Among museums that have had his work in an exhibition are: Dallas Museum of Art, Museum of the Southwest - Midland, Ft. Worth Art Museum - TX; Albright Knox Gallery - Buffalo, NY; Arkansas Art Center -Little Rock; Harwood Museum - Taos, NM;
