A comic book artist whose work was especially popular in the 1990s with his name associated with ABC Warriors, a comic strip about robots, Lobo, a Black-American anti hero, and Sláine,
a fantasy series based on Celtic myths. Bisley uses paints, inks
and airbrushes for his comic illustrations and is much inspired by rock
album covers and graffiti as well as the work of illustrators Frank
Frazetta and Bill Sienkiewicz. Many comic book artists in 2000
have imitated him, with his style dominating the industry.
Bisley had his professional break in 1987, when he was hired by Pat
Mills, who upon seeing the potential of Bisley's work, revived the
comic strip ABC Warriors and assigned the artwork to Bisley. Then he took over the drawing of Sláine and after that Judge Dredd, Batman, and Judgement on Gotham. He sometimes does work for Heavy Metal as well.
