| | Born in Southampton County, VA on Aug. 1, 1818. After graduating from the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Lt. Blunt accompanied a surveying expedition to California during 1849-50. His sketches of the California coast were included in A Series of Charts, With Sailing Directions (1852). He was captain of the steamer Winfield Scott when it was lost at sea in 1853. Deeply affected by the loss, he died on April 27, 1854. | Source:
