Steven Backman creates sculptures out of toothpicks. His works include a 13 foot Golden Gate Bridge made from 30,000 toothpicks, a San Francisco cable car made of 4,000 toothpicks and a yacht made from 10,000 toothpicks.
Backman's favorite visual artist in LeRoy Neiman. Neiman even signed a toothpick sculpture that Backman had made of the artist.
In 1987 San Francisco Mayor Diane Feinstein requested his Golden Gate Bridge sculpture be displayed at the St Francis Yacht Club press (showing 500 of 1472 characters). |
