This biography from the Archives of AskART:

The following information was submitted by the artist's daughter, Mary L. Shapiro:

A portrait artist, she had been a a long-time resident of West Philadelphia, when she died January 11, 1995.

Mrs. Devine graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1931, and received a fine arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania in a combined course with the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1936. In 1935 she exhibited a self-portrait in a juried exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts; she was the only student in that show.

Among her sitters were Bess Myerson, Miss America of 1945, and Philadelphia politicians William Green, Sr, and Mayor Frank Rizzo.  Her 1955 portrait of Virginia Supreme Court Justice Drury A. Hinton now hangs in the Richmond Courthouse.

In the 1950s she experimented with different art forms, and built her china painting efforts into a successful business.
