| | Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 22, 1899. Beggs studied at ASL in NYC, Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, and with Will S. Taylor and W. S. Kendall. While a resident of Claremont, CA, he headed the art department at Pomona College during 1926-47. After that time he served as director of the Nat'l Collection of Fine Arts of the Smithsonian Institution until 1966. He was a resident of McLean, VA until his demise on Oct. 25, 1990. His painting subjects include sporting scenes which are often compared to the works of George Bellows. Member: Calif. Art Club; Calif. WC Society. Exh: LA Co.
