Venancio Blanco (b. 1923)
He was born in 1923 in Catalania (Spain). By 1959, Venancio had a large exhibit in Madrid and was awarded the Premio Nacional de Escultura (National Price for Sculpture). In 1963 he had his first US exhibit at Galeria Forum in New York. In 1964 he was awarded the Gold Medal on the IV Bienal International of Sacred Arts in Salzburg. In 1965, he won a Gold Medal at the X.Exhibit of European Art in Brussels.
Since 1970 Venancio (he usually goes by his first name) was a professor of sculpting at the Madrid School of Art. In 1975 he was named member of Academy of Fine Art (Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando). In 1984 there was an exhibit of his collected works in Academia de Bellas Artes in Rome and Real Colegio de Espania in Bologna. He also represented Spain in the February 2000 Vatican Jubilee of Arts.
His sculptures are in museums all over the world including the Vatican Museum and the Queen Sofia National Museum of Arts in Madrid.
