This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Known primarily for his landscape painting, William Boardman was born in Cazenovia, New York and attended a Seminary there. His art career began as a portrait painter in 1841 in Cleveland, Ohio, and he also worked in New Haven, Connecticut in the mid 1840s and in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Then for the next twenty years, he had a studio in New York City followed by several years in Providence, Rhode Island (1868-1871) and Boston from 1874 to 1877. Reportedly he died in Boston, when he was age 80.

From his New York City studio, he traveled widely. Among his landscape locations were the Hudson River Valley , the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and the Kanawha and New River valleys in West Virginia.
