| Known primarily for his landscape painting, William Boardman was born in Cazenovia, New York and attended a Seminary there. His art career began as a portrait painter in 1841 in Cleveland, Ohio, and he also worked in New Haven, Connecticut in the mid 1840s and in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Then for the next twenty years, he had a studio in New York City followed by several years in Providence, Rhode Island (1868-1871) and Boston from 1874 to 1877. Reportedly he died in Boston, when he was age 80.
From his New York City studio, he traveled widely. Among his landscape locations were the Hudson River Valley , the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and the Kanawha and New River valleys in West Virginia.

| Born in Cazenovia, New York, landscapist, portraitist, and miniature painter, William G. Boardman entered the Cazenovia Seminary in 1830 and by 1841 his artistic career was ongoing in Cleveland, Ohio.
He worked in New Haven, CT (1846) and Charlestown, MA (1847) but by 1848 through the 1860s he had a studio in New York City, from 1868-71 in Providence, RI and from 1874-77 in Boston, MA.
Boardman died in Providence at the age of 80.
He was a member of the National Academy of Design where he exhibited frequently from 1846-71 as well as the American Art Union and the Boston Athenaeum.
