|  Walton Blodgett was an American Scene watercolor painter and also an illustrator and teacher. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he studied at the Grand Central Art School in 1927 and privately with George Luks and with George Pearse Ennis in Eastport, Maine. In 1936, he was a WPA artist in Key West, Florida, and in 1946, he taught at Hunter College in New York City.
He was active as a member and exhibitor in the American Watercolor Society.

Walton Blodgett studied under George Luks at the Art Students League in NYC where he supplemented his income doing illustrations for "Fortune" and other popular magazines of the time. He moved to Stowe, Vermont in the late 1930's, where he remained the rest of his life.
He worked entirely in watercolors, painting landscapes and village scenes of mid-twentieth century Vermont for the visiting tourists. |

| | A student of George Luks, Blodgett moved with his wife and young family to Stowe, Vermont in the mid to late 1930"s, where he began to paint, in watercolor, landscapes of the surrounding villages, farms, hills and mountains of Vermont until his untimely death in 1964. His works were often purchased by tourists in the fledgling skiing and tourist community, and thus can be found in any part of this country. Many of his works also turn up in the Stamford, CT area, where he grew up and retained many boyhood friends. Although his work does not enjoy a national reputation, he has a small but devoted following in his home state of Vermont. |
