| | Born in Munich, Germany in 1850. Behringer was a pupil of his father who was a professor at Munich's Royal Academy. He came to San Francisco to recover his health after front-line service in the German Army during the Franco-Prussian War. Remaining in San Francisco, during the 1880s he painted Fort Gunnybags (the vigilantes' headquarters as it looked in 1856). Exh: Mechanics' Institute Fair (SF), 1884, 1887, 1899.
