| William R. Beal was born in New York City in 1914 and moved to Monhegan Island, ME. A largely self-taught painter, Beal painted primarily in New England as well as in Bermuda. His work is held by the Print Club of Albany, and featured in the book Monhegan: The Artist's Island by Curtis, Lieberman and Little. He was the son-in-law of Stow Wegenroth; friend of Jacqueline Hudson and Mary Taylor Winter and Andrew Winte.
