Biography from Coons Gallery - Sierra Nevada:
Wynne Benti was born 1956 Clinton, Indiana. She earned a BA, Fine Art, University of California, Davis and BFA, Graphics Packaging, Art Center College of Design, Pasadena.

Wynne Benti began studying fine art at Immaculate Heart College with Corita Kent, transferring to University of California Berkeley and eventually Davis where she studied fine art printmaking, drawing and photography with Roland Peterson, Wayne Thiebaud, Roy DeForest and Harvey Himelfarb.  She worked for the student newspaper creating editorial cartoons.  Benti participated in a half-dozen group exhibitions at Davis, and won grand prize for a five foot square hand-colored photograph at a Sacramento art competition sponsored by Niello Porsche-Audi.  Benti studied graphic design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.

She began her design career at Bright Strategic Design in Los Angeles working for exhibit designer Larry Klein on signage for the Holland America's ocean liners and pictogram design for the Los Angeles Olympics.  Her design team's work on Holland America is in the permanent design collection at the Library of Congress.

An award-winning art director, Benti was asked by Saul Bass to join his design team before she settled into the corporate design department at NBC.  Benti wrote her first book: Favorite Dog Hikes In and Around Los Angeles, followed by Climbing Mt. Whitney, launching her Spotted Dog Press, Inc.  She moved to FOX Broadcasting Company as senior art director.  Benti taught typography and graphic design at both Art Center and UCLA/Extension.  She moved with her husband to Bishop in 1997.

Benti's career as a graphic designer has had a major influence on the unique look of her work as well as her climbing and canoing trips into the remote desert southwest.  She has climbed over 400 mountains in the American Southwest, Mexico and Japan.
