This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A note from the artist's niece:

We all started out in N.Y.C., where I was born in 1944, after the last four surviving siblings of the Barcons de Aresti family immigrated from Buenos Aires.  Of course, I still have auntie's art work.  Dearest to me is the one painted of her sister, Raquel, (my mother, as very young girl, when they all lived in Buenos Aires)  so, obviously, mi tia Zulema Barcons was talented at a very early age.

Sadly, a great fire burned the New Hampshire mansion that she and uncle Oscar lived in their later years.  We often visited their huge place in the White Mountains, where she had the most wonderful exhibit walls of her own paintings, like great museum gallery...only there was nothing but ashes left of the home, let alone any paintings; it was reported that the turps and all the oils fueled the intensity of  the burn. my auntie never quite recovered from the shock of loss.  and then uncle died.
