| Albert Beckwith Campbell-Shields was born in Margaree, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on Aug. 15, 1865. Campbell-Shields was educated at Worchester Academy, Boston University, and the Episcopal Theological Seminary where he became a minister. He studied further at Harvard, Oxford, and the University of London while supporting himself as a portrait painter. For 15 years he was rector of the Church of the Redeemer in South Boston. He was active in San Diego from 1909, settled there about 1923, and remained until his death on Oct. 1, 1930.
