This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Born in Taunton, England in 1868. Champ appears to have been well trained in his native land and had received medals and decorations in both France and England. He immigrated to Los Angeles in 1898 to teach at the School of Art & Design. Most of his 40 years in Los Angeles were spent in a small cottage on Twelfth Place. He died there on May 11, 1938. His estate was left to USC. Champ's watercolors of missions and adobes were imbued with an Old World, romantic quality. | Source: Edan Hughes, "Artists in California, 1786-1940" Southern California Artists (Nancy Moure); City Directory; Los Angeles Times, 11-13-1910 & 7-10-1938 (obituary). | | Nearly 20,000 biographies can be found in Artists in California 1786-1940 by Edan Hughes and is available for sale ($150).
