| Alice Cumbow (b. 1894, Wood Lake, Nebraska - d. 1994, Valentine, Nebraska)
Alice Cumbow was born on her grandfather's prairie homestead and was a
lifelong resident of Cherry County, Nebraska. She married Fred
Cumbow at age 23 and had three children.
Cumbow is one of Nebraska's best known folk artists. She is known
for her paintings featuring early Nebraska historical narratives,
Native American subjects, and pioneer genre scenes. She was a
self taught artist who began painting seriously in the 1930s.
