This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Born in Civitaquana, Italy, Arcangelo Cascieri became a US citizen and from 1922 to 1926 studied architecture at Boston Architecture Center, where he was also the Dean for many years.
Cascieri studied at Boston University from 1932-36. He has many public sculptures in the Boston area, where he lived, and has given many private art lessons there.
The following obituary, dated 1/16/1997, is from the New Standard newspaper of Lexington, Massachusetts.
Arcangelo Cascieri, sculptor, educator, dies at 94 By The Associated Press
LEXINGTON -- Arcangelo Cascieri, a sculptor with works in the United States and Europe, and dean of the Boston Architectural Center for more than 50 years, has died.
Mr. Cascieri died at his home Tuesday. He was 94.
He designed the American World War I Memorial at Belleau Wood in France, and the World War II Memorial at Margraten, Holland.
In this country, his works have been used in cathedrals, churches and temples, and can be found at Boston College and Holy Cross College, at schools in Everett and Lexington, and at the Courier Express Building in Buffalo, N.Y.
He designed the sculpture on the Parkman Plaza fountain on Boston Common.
Mr. Cascieri served as dean of the Boston Architectural Center from 1943 until his death, and is credited by many people with turning it from a small evening school to a nationally accredited institution with 600 students. The 130 members of the faculty serve without pay, as Mr. Cascieri did. He developed the school's work-study program, under which students get practical experience and academic work.
Mr. Cascieri persuaded architect Walter Gropius to help at the architectural center, gave Buckminster Fuller one of his first public forums to discuss his geodesic dome, and persuaded Frank Lloyd Wright, Eero Saarinen and other architects to speak at the center.
