This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Acclaimed film and television actress, Barbara Carrera is Nicaraguan born and was educated at an American convent. Barbara Carrera has traveled the world over, mastering five languages. Dedicated to daily meditation, she draws inspiration for her art from hours of solitude and introspection and her paintings are portraits, visionary landscapes, and spiritually insightful images

Barbara Carrera's exotic film locations, from Africa to Australia, China, Russia, India and South America, offer her further inspiration for her paintings. As an expression of her reverence for the vast myriad of creation, she captures on canvas the landscapes and people of the many places and cultures she has experienced.

Barbara Carrera's new series of paintings, "Hollywood Legends" is inspired by her personal associations with some of the great actors of our time, as well as her grasp of the pervasive influence of Hollywood on modern culture. She creates portraits, in which she balances the inner humanity and outer charisma of legendary stars, including Greta Garbo, Bette Davis, Audrey Hepburn, Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, Sean Connery, Cary Grant, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelley and Vivian Leigh.

The public first saw Barbara Carrera's art on The Merv Griffin Show. Carrera brought a single canvas to the talk show, where it was unveiled by Merv Griffin. The painting made such an impact that viewers wrote to Griffin asking if it would be for sale. Carrera's paintings have been featured on television a number of times since then, including a special interview on Entertainment Tonight.

In her film career, Barbara Carrera has worked with some of the screen's most legendary actors, including Laurence Olivier, Burt Lancaster, Peter O'Toole, Rock Hudson, Paul Newman and Sean Connery. As the James Bond villainess "whose looks could kill" in "Never Say Never Again," Barbara Carrera enhanced her cinematic reputation and received a Golden Globe nomination for her role as the ultimate adversary of Sean Connery's James Bond. Carrera also gained acclaim co-starring with Bette Davis in Wicked Stepmother.

During her year-long stint on television's Dallas as Angelica Neros, Carrera received barrels of fan mail, and she is also remembered for outstanding characterizations on several television mini-series, including her role in "Centennial," for which she received an Emmy nomination.

In addition to painting and acting, Barbara Carrera also carries out her duties as Ambassador-at-Large for Nicaragua, her native country.
