| Born in Natchez, Mississippi, she now lives in Bellaire, Texas which is a part of the city of Houston. Barbara is a graduate of Bellaire High School. She and her husband, Henry J. Clay are raising two grandchildren. She and Henry still find time to travel and enjoy their time together. They have traveled to Europe many times and have seen the great, inspiring art that the world has to offer. That has truly been an inspiration to Barbara. On her trips, Barbara is always learning and studying ways and techniques to interpret beauty in paintings. Barbara is very thankful that Henry is very supportive of her art and enjoys being part of her love for art.
Barbara Jeffery Clay taught watercolor at the University of Houston in the Continuing Education Department for twelve years, for which she won the Special Services award. As a teacher Barbara helped her students develop their own style and talents. The University of Houston is also her Alma Mater. Her time is now centered on teaching workshops and developing her painting focus. The workshops are intense and planned with study guides so students can follow the plan again later at home. Barbara taught for TIA (Taos Institute of the Arts) in Taos, New Mexico. This is her fourth year of teaching in that wonderful area. Sonoma Wine Country is another destination that she has taught watercolor. Workshops in Houston, Texas are always included in her schedule. Barbara is a Juror, she critiques and is very active with her local society, WAS-H.
