| A teacher of oil painting at Greenville County Museum School of Art in Greenville, North Carolina from 1965 to 1983, Bette Coburn was born in Chicago but spent her career in Greenville, North Carolina. Her specialties are tempera painting and teaching.
She attended Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa; Art Institute of Chicago; Evanston Art Center, Evanston, Ill., and the University of North Carolina. She was one of 42 American women selected to represent the US in the "European International Exhibition of Women Artists".
She is one of 39 artists featured in the tricentennial book, 39 Contemporary Artists of South Carolina.
