Caroline Clowes was a member of the Hudson River School. She lived in Poughkeepsie from about 1838 until her death. She had a picture displayed at the 1895 exposition in Philadelphia. It was called, "The Alarm" and depicts a few cattle on a hillside, showing alarm at the sight and sound of a railroad train in the background.
She studied with Samuel B. Morse, who also lived just outside of Poughkeepsie.
The main body of her paintings are in her old home, Hearts'easem, just outside of Poughkeepsie, where her studio still exists. |
