Biography from AskART:
The following is from Charlotte Ballinger:

Caroline Clowes was a member of the Hudson River School. She lived in
Poughkeepsie from about 1838 until her death. She had a picture
displayed at the 1895 exposition in Philadelphia. It was called, "The
Alarm" and depicts a few cattle on a hillside, showing alarm at the
sight and sound of a railroad train in the background.

She studied with Samuel B. Morse, who also lived just outside of
Poughkeepsie.

The main body of her paintings are in her old home, Hearts'easem, just
outside of Poughkeepsie, where her studio still exists.
