Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data compared to the extensive information about American artists.

Celestino Celestini was born in Città di Castello in 1882.  He studied art at Giovanni Fattori's school - specialism of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze - and he was also his teacher.  He became particularly interested in engraving and watercolour so that, in view of his talent, he was appointed professor at the Florentine Scuola di Incisione dell'Accademia from 1912 to 1953, a school that was his idea and that he established. For a brief period he was also teacher of scenic design at the Faculty of Architecture, Florence.

His favourite subjects became typical corners of small towns and views of ancient hamlets, portraits mainly in Tuscany and Lazio, most often secluded ones. His prints can be seen at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Firenze, in the print room in Paris and at the British Museum, London.

Celestino Celestini died in Florence in 1961.
