| Charles Carey was born in Elmhurst, Illinois, in 1894, studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and exhibited in Chicago, at the Philadelphia Alliance and in Cleveland. His specialty was bookplates and he taught lithography at the Ox-Bow school in Saugatuck for several seasons.
