Biography from Boca Raton Museum of Art:
| Charles Sidney Clough
Painter born in Buffalo, NY. February 2, 1951. He studied at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, Ontario College of Art, Canada. Clough began in the late 80s, using photo techniques combined with paint smears, to create multi-media creations. He eventually discarded in favor of more traditional abstract painting, leaning heavily towards abstract expressionism. He uses titles to underline the humor in his work .
The paintings are involved with the gesture and movement of the medium, manipulated with fingers, brush or long handled pad. Clough wants to mystify the viewer, and tries to produce humorous and challenging images and titles.
Clough has received grants from National Endowment for the Arts (1982, 1989), New York State Council on the Arts (1983) and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation (2009).
