This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Born in Salem, Oregon on February 24, 1860. Clyde was the son of artist Belle Walker Cooke. Artistically inclined at an early age, he was exhibiting drawings at age five. He studied at Willamette University in 1872-73, was active in his native city until 1879, had a studio in Portland in 1880, and studied art in Munich, Germany at the Royal Academy during 1880-85.
Returning to Salem, he was active there until 1893 when he moved to San Francisco. There he worked in the art department of the Chronicle and maintained a studio at 610 Montgomery Street. Most of his early works were lost in the earthquake and fire of 1906. The San Francisco Bay area remained his home until his death in Berkeley on Jan. 17, 1933.
