| Sculptor, portrait painter and lithographer, Cyrus Cobb was born in Malden, Massachusetts (1834). He was the twin brother of the painter, Darius Cobb, the twins worked together in Boston from the mid-1850's painting portraits and collaborated on large historical and religious paintings.
From 1869 to 1879, Cyrus also studied and practiced law in Boston. He gave up law and returned to art, achieving considerable fame as a sculptor. He was also a musician and was active in musical and literary circles in Boston.
