This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Illustrator, portrait painter, and political cartoonist, David Edward Cronin studied art in Troy, NY with Alban Conant and in 1855 came to New York City.
He was in Europe for three years before the Civil War, and in 1860 returned to join the army and worked for Harper's Weekly as a staff artist. Before settling in New York City in the late 1870's, he worked as a journalist in Binghamton, NY, as a lawyer in New York City, and as a railroad promoter in Texas, all after the war was over. He dedicated himself to illustrating books and for a few years as a political cartoonist, from 1879 to 1903. In 1890 he moved to Philadelphia and lived there until his death.
