compared to the extensive information about American artists.
Dimitri Chiparus was a sculptor in Paris during the Art Deco 1920’s. Chiparus is well known for his small scale, colorful bronze or bronze and ivory female and children figures.
He studied under Antonin Mercier and Jean Boucher and exhibited at the Salon of the Societe des Artistes François in 1914 leading to an Honorable Mention. He was awarded a prize at the Salon des Beaux Arts. Scholars agree that Chiparus likely perfected the method of combining ivory and bronze known as the chryselephantine technique.
Most of his figures were edited by the firm of Edmond Etling, though he executed a number of models for the firm of Arthur Goldscheider. Both firms had their own bronze foundries. He exhibited a bronze edited by Goldscheider at the 1928 Salon, La Danseuse Ta-Keo. His last recorded exhibit at the Salon was in 1939.
His birth and death dates are recorded as 1888/1950 as well as 1886/1947. Sources include: Andevan.com Decofile.com
